How to wear dresses in the cold

I love autumn and all its luxurious colors. While we all appreciate summer events, there is something about fall events that I love. The not-so-chilly air, and the spicy colors. Although, now that the weather has gotten significantly colder here in Toronto, wearing dresses in the cold can be quite the challenge. That’s why I always ask myself two key things before purchasing dresses that I want to wear during the colder months…

1. What is the dress made of?

If warmth is one of your priorities, avoid purchasing dresses that are made of thin breathable fabrics. Instead, spend a little more (if you can) and invest in a thick ruffled hem fabric. The thicker the material, it will help retain your body heat and prevent wind and cool air from penetrating the fabric especially when you need that outside shot.

2. Can I comfortably layer under a dress?

Definitely! But it depends on the dress you get. Before you buy a dress that you want to wear in the cold, always ask yourself, “If I layer underneath, would I still look chic & comfortable?”. If the answer is yes, then you’re good to go. Personally, for this outfit, I would love to dress up by wearing a high-heeled black OTK boots or dress down with a fishnet socks and a sneakers. Adding extra layers under your dress is one of the easiest ways to stay warm on cold days.
